Application as focal point for product-related data
voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace is a leading supplier of high-performance titanium, nickel-based, and special steel forgings, where strict quality standards and complex production chains require seamless coordination across departments. Over time, production and quality-control teams had come to rely on a variety of disconnected internal tools and standalone SPC software. These siloed systems led to fragmented workflows, repeated logins, and limited end-to-end visibility across manufacturing stages. To uphold its commitment to operational excellence, voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace sought a centralized, user-friendly solution to unify its data landscape and enable efficient, cross-departmental collaboration.
The main challenge was encouraging company-wide adoption of Statistical Process Control (SPC) while contextualizing production data by consolidating other essential internal applications. The new system needed to integrate all relevant data sources, including SAP-linked production orders, inspection data, documents, change notifications, and more. Another major hurdle was ensuring high usability for diverse user groups while delivering advanced functionality such as low-latency SPC visualizations and flexible app integrations.
The goal was to design and develop a web-based Cyber Physical System (CPS) application that not only replicates and improves existing siloed applications but also enriches them with detailed production-stage information, document access, SAP jump points, and a robust SPC center. The solution needed to integrate additional internal tools and serve as a foundation for future digital development. It was implemented using Angular and deployed in a secure, scalable OpenShift environment.

To meet the needs of voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace, craftworks started by gathering user insights through workshops and interviews with production, quality, and engineering teams. These findings informed the UX design process, resulting in a streamlined interface tailored to real-world workflows. The newly developed Angular-based application replicates and improves legacy tools while adding manufacturing-stage data, SAP jump points, and document links. To unify tools, an integrated App Store connects various internal applications, eliminating redundant logins and fragmented workflows.
A key component is the custom-built Statistical Process Control (SPC) center, which consolidates inspection data across products and stages of the value chain. It delivers real-time visualizations of process capability and deviations, enabling faster, data-driven decision-making. In addition, craftworks advised on technology selection and oversaw deployment on OpenShift, ensuring the solution is scalable, secure, and prepared for future growth.
The Cyber Physical System has transformed how voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace monitors and manages product quality across departments. By unifying critical tools, enabling low-latency SPC insights, and integrating SAP and document data into a single interface, the system has streamlined workflows, eliminated redundant steps, and standardized quality assurance practices. With over 2.000 weekly views shortly after launch, the platform has achieved strong early adoption and laid the groundwork for continuous digital transformation in production and quality control.

We had strong experience in application development, but limited knowledge of Angular and containerized apps. craftworks helped us build the app and develop the skills to run the application ourselves. Their team was highly flexible, respectful, and always ready with the right expertise. I would recommend craftworks for their technical excellence and outstanding teamwork.
